Dear Parents and Students:
It was a great week in the Panther Choirs as we listened to many of our students perform mock auditions for All-State, showed our school spirit with Tacky Tourist Day and our girls performed the National Anthem at the Pep Rally and Game.
As we move into the sixth week of school I want to remind you that even though GCISD is now on a 9-week grading period, we must still abide by the State UIL calendar of 6-Week eligibility checks. The school will take a snapshot of teachers grade books at the end of the school day on Friday, October 2. If a student is failing a class at this point the student will become ineligible at the end of the school day on Friday October 9 and will remain ineligible through the completion of the grading period. Students can become eligible (or lose eligibility) again one week after the posting of the 9-Week Grades (Grades post on Oct 16, Eligibility goes into effect on Oct 23). The Choir does not have any events that will be effected by this first eligibility check, however at the 9-weeks ineligibility will cause a student to not be able to participate in Region Auditions, 9-10 Region, or the Chorale Trip to Houston. If there is anyway we can be of assistance, plea
Cluster Concert, Friday, October 2
Chorale and our Jazz Choirs will be performing at White’s Chapel United Methodist Church with the choirs from Heritage Middle School and Grapevine Middle School as part of our annual Cluster Concert. Jazz students need to report at 5:30pm for a sound check. Chorale students need to report to White’s Chapel at 6pm in formal uniform for a short rehearsal for the Finale. The Concert begins at 7pm and is free and open to the public.
All-State Phase 1 Auditions, Thursday, October 1
Phase 1 Auditions are on Thursday at Flower Mound HS. We will leave CHHS via bus at 2pm. Students can be picked up from Flower Mound at the completion of their audition, however, I need a written note (email is fine) giving me this information before Thursday. We will return to CHHS at the completion of all auditions (we estimate between 9pm-10pm). Soprano 1, Soprano 2, Alto 1, and Bass 1 ONLY are auditioning at Phase 1. Other sections and those who advance Thursday will audition on Monday, October 5 at Marcus HS following an identical schedule. You may bring food with you and/or purchase food from the concessions at the audition. We are very proud of the preparation our students have done for this audition. We are taking a record 41 singers to auditions and there is potential for them to be very successful in this process based on what we have heard this week at mock auditions.
Phase 1 Cut Party
Cuts for phase 1 will be released on Tuesday at 3:00pm. We will host a “cut party” after school in the main choir room from 4-6pm concluding with pizza. All of those auditioning (even if you don’t have to go until Phase 2) are invited to attend as we work details in the cuts and help everyone prepare for Thursday.
Phase 2 Brush Up
Since we only have 1 day turn around for Phase 2 Auditions, we invite all of those that advance to the school on Saturday from 10:30am-12:30pm. We will again have some fun AND prepare ourselves for Phase 2 on Monday.
If you did not receive a uniform during “get fit” day, we will be attempting to take care of you during class this week. Remember, if you are having uniforms hemmed, they must be ready to go for our Fall Concert on Oct 20 (Chorale - you need yours this Friday!)
All-State Lessons This Week
We have made as much time as we can to see you individually before auditions. Please see the sign-up HERE:
Those of you that have 4th / 8th off, please make use of those times as we have given every available before / after school slot in our schedule and barely have enough times to help everyone!
