Dear Parents and Students:
What a joy it was to stand on stage with nearly 500 students on Friday night at our annual CHHS Choir Cluster Concert. I am reminded how lucky I am to work at this school in a community that appreciates and understands the importance of arts education for our students. The choirs from Heritage MS and Grapevine MS sang beautifully, our Jazz Choirs performed exceptionally well, and the audience’s long applause for the Panther Chorale clearly demonstrated their excitement for their performance. Congratulations to all of those involved!
Success at All-State Phase 1
A huge congratulations is also in order to our students who sang on Thursday at Phase 1 of the All-State Choir Auditions. We advanced almost twice as many students at this Phase as we did last year. We take the rest of the students tomorrow for Phase 2 and will announce full results then. The dedication, perseverance, and commitment to musical excellence involved in a student pursuing this process has far reaching benefits and I am thrilled that over 40 of our students have engaged in this process this fall. If you (or your student) is in 9th or 10th grade and would like to engage in this process please see information regarding 9-10th Region Choir Auditions below.
9-10th Grade Region Choir Auditions
We are kicking off sectionals this week for our 9th-10th grade Region Honor Choir this week. The learning experience for students in this process is similar to those engaging in the All-State process without as large of a time commitment. This is an extremely beneficial process for our students and we hope that many will involve themselves in the process. Activities such as this that develop personal musicianship are taken into account when auditioning and placing students in choirs at the end of the year. We will be working Tuesday and Wednesday 4-5 with students getting them started in this process. Students are encouraged, but not required to attend as many sectionals as possible so that we can assist them in preparing the two pieces for the audition. Entries are due by Friday for the October 26 audition.
Back by popular demand, the Panther Choirs will be selling Butterbraids again this year. We will be distributing forms, information (and even some samples) this week during our choir classes. Orders will be delivered in time for the Thanksgiving Holiday.
Eat at Chophouse and Support the Choir
Eat at Chop House Burgers anytime on Monday October 12th and the Panther Choir Boosters will receive a portion of the proceeds. This is a delicious and easy way to support our program. We hope to see you there!
The choir Fall Concert is on Tuesday, October 20 at 7pm in the CHHS Auditorium. Please remember that this is a required performance assessment for all students in the choir program. Please look ahead to make arrangements for students to be at the concert. We will have a tech rehearsal Monday, October 19 after-school to prepare for the Concert. This is also a required grade. We should be taking care of any final uniform issues this week. Please make sure everything is hemmed, clean, and ready to go for October 20. We cannot wait to show you what we have been working on!
