Panther Choir Newsletter 1/19/18

Last weekend seven of our Panther Choir Students competed in the final round of the Texas All-State Choir Auditions. This process which begins in May of each year begins with over 17,000 students around the state and ends with just over 500 students (less than .05% of those who begin the process) statewide earning a place in an All-State Ensemble. The Texas All-State Choir is recognized around the country as the top student ensemble in the nation putting these students among the top musicians in the nation. Participation in this process not only builds musicianship, but also personal character and perseverance. We are incredibly proud of all of our students that participated in the process this year and especially excited to recognize the four CHHS Singers that have been named All-State Singers this year. It is already time to begin thinking about this process for next year and for many of our students this means attending a summer all-state camp. Please see the information concerning scholarships below to see how our booster club helps to support students in attending these camps.

Congratulations to the following students for being named to the All-State Choir:

Nasir Panjwani, Karyssa Nelson, Skylar Dubose and William Swinney.

On Monday arena scheduling opens to allow students to choose courses for next school year. We hope that each of you will continue as part of our Panther Choir Family. We strive to provide a curriculum that supports continuous growth in our students both personally and musically. Each year provides different opportunities for our students. The 2018-2019 school year is an international tour year and our students will have the opportunity to perform in multiple European venues. An official announcement of this trip will come shortly and registration will begin in May. The chance to travel and perform is one of the hallmark experiences of a students time in the CHHS choir and we hope that you will consider joining us.

The initial course selection for Choir simply requires that you choose Choir and any auxiliary classes that you are interested in taking. In addition to our traditional choir classes students may choose to concurrently enroll in our Jazz Choirs or our Applied Music Class (a specialty course focusing on individual vocal development, All-State, Vocal Auditions, and College audition Preparation). Should you encounter any questions during this process feel free to contact me. Choir auditions and official placement will occur later during the spring semester.

We have several Panther Choir students performing in the Fine Arts production of "Sound of Music", we hope you will join us next weekend.

The Panther Choir Booster Club is proud to support the students in our program through over $5000 in scholarships offered each year in the following categories: Graduating Seniors (deadline: March 20) and All-state choir camp (deadline: February 20). Please reference the scholarship page HERE for specific information about requirements.

This week we welcomed TMEA Vocal Vice-President, Derrick Brookins to CHHS to give our students feedback on our preparation for the convention performance. We had a terrific time learning from one of the best teachers in our field!

Our Pre-TMEA Concert on Monday, February 12 is moving locations. We will now perform with the TCU Concert Chorale at First United Methodist Church of Grapevine. More details will be forthcoming as we approach the event.

The deadline to order TMEA recordings has been extended, please reference the Chorale Parent Information page for updates about travel and/or to order a TMEA recording. Audio and Video recordings are available.
