Panther Choir Newsletter 2/3/18

We have been hard at work in all of our classes starting preparations for UIL competition this spring and polishing music for the Panther Chorale's appearance at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention. As we make preparations for this particular event I am reminded again of the wonderful support offered to the Panther Choirs by parents, district administration, and the community. The district is not only standing behind us financially but also by their presence (Dr. Groppel will introduce Chorale at the Convention and Dr. Ryan will fly down to attend the performance). In addition, this week alone multiple district employees have been working to finalize hotel reservations for our kids, the facilities team moved their entire schedule around to make sure risers can be delivered for our off campus concerts, and multiple parents have been in the office doing everything from proof reading our concert program to organizing the ladies jewelry. The support of our program is incredible and it is this community that allows us to achieve excellence. I hope that many of you, students and parents in all of our choirs, are able to join us for one of our home concerts as this is not only a celebration of Chorale, but the years of work of entire program, our middle school programs, our district, and the future of the Panther Choirs.

The Panther Choir Booster Club is proud to support the students in our program through over $5000 in scholarships offered each year in the following categories: Graduating Seniors (deadline: March 20) and All-state choir camp (deadline: February 20). Please reference the scholarship page HERE for specific information about requirements.

We are in need of student volunteers to help run middle school District UIL contest. It is most helpful if you are able to miss two classes in a row to accommodate overlap times but either way, please use the sign up to indicate the specific times you are available. You will be excused from class but responsible for any work missed. Chorale Students, please be responsible when considering this opportunity knowing that you are going to miss class for both TMEA and SWACDA. STUDENTS, Sign up for times HERE.

We are also in need of a few PARENT volunteers for this event. PARENTS, please sign up HERE.

Arena scheduling is now open to allow students to choose courses for next school year. We hope that each of you will continue as part of our Panther Choir Family. We strive to provide a curriculum that supports continuous growth in our students both personally and musically. Each year provides different opportunities for our students. The 2018-2019 school year is an international tour year and our students will have the opportunity to perform in multiple European venues. An official announcement of this trip will come shortly and registration will begin in May. The chance to travel and perform is one of the hallmark experiences of a students time in the CHHS choir and we hope that you will consider joining us.

The initial course selection for Choir simply requires that you choose Choir and any auxiliary classes that you are interested in taking. In addition to our traditional choir classes students may choose to concurrently enroll in our Jazz Choirs or our Applied Music Class (a specialty course focusing on individual vocal development, All-State, Vocal Auditions, and College audition Preparation). Should you encounter any questions during this process feel free to contact me. Choir auditions and official placement will occur later during the spring semester.

For more information concerning choir and scheduling please see our information page HERE.

Supplemental Meal Fee

As we analyzed our final schedules for conventions and concerts this week the Booster Club has seen the need to provide several instances of meals / snacks for the students both while traveling and before our Pre-Concerts in DFW. In order to support these needs financially the Booster Club is asking for a $20 fee from Chorale members. This will help cover meals before both of our pre-concerts, group snacks while traveling, group snacks before our TMEA concert, and will assist in supplementing the group celebration meals in San Antonio and Oklahoma City (combined these cost are nearly $40 per student). The students will also receive a per diem from GCISD to help cover meals during these trips that are not provided by the Boosters. The fee has been charged online via the student CHARMS account (see the charge here). You can pay it online via PayPal or send in cash or check made out to the Panther Choir Booster Club brought to the school. Should you have any financial difficulty with this additional fee please contact Mr. Rinn.
