Information for 2018-2019 Incoming Choir Families
As we look forward to the 2018-2019 school year we are preparing to welcome a new class of students into the Panther Choir Family. For our incoming freshman class and their families this involves many decisions as high school courses are chosen. We hope that you will consider being part of the CHHS Panther Choir. The program is one of the premier programs on our campus garnering state and national recognition for outstanding performance groups. In this school year alone the CHHS Panther Choir has achieved the following accolades:
Invited Performing Choir for the Texas Music Educators Association (equivalent of a state championship)
Invited Performing Choir for the Southwest American Choral Directors Association (equivalent of a national-division championship)
Invited Performance at Washington National Cathedral, Washington, DC
4 students selected as Texas All-State Choir Members from over 17,000 auditioning state wide.
36 students selected as members of the Region 31 All Region Honor Choir
5 seniors accepted to music schools for collegiate study with combined scholarships totaling over $500,000 toward their college education
For those that placed choir on your initial course request we are working to get you scheduled. If you did not initially choose choir we are happy to still add you to our rosters. Please fill out THIS FORM if you need to add choir or are having other scheduling issues that we need to look at. Please look over the information below and feel free to contact Mr. Rinn should you have any questions.
Creativity is as important in education as literacy and we should treat it with the same status.

In the CHHS Panther Choir we believe that a fine arts education is not a luxury for our students but is essential in their comprehensive education at CHHS. With the availability of eight course credits per year at CHHS our students can easily participate in choir while being engaged in other activities on campus including rigorous academics, athletics, and other fine arts courses. We have developed a SAMPLE FOUR YEAR PLAN that helps with planning so that a student can be involved in Fine Arts throughout high school and graduate with multiple honors and endorsements. For more detailed information concerning our program including insight from our current students and alumni please see our INFORMATION PAGE.
We are in the process of listening to all auditions and will post official choir rosters and work on scheduling issues in the upcoming weeks.
All students interested in choir are welcomed into our program. However, our choirs are auditioned to level students where we can better serve the needs of each student. Please see our AUDITION INFORMATION PAGE which contains information regarding auditions and courses available in the CHHS Choir Program and specific audition requirements. Students can be placed in choir without an audition, however, they must audition for advanced groups. If you have missed an audition deadline, please contact Mr. Rinn and we will find a way to accommodate you.
PREPARING FOR HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR
Students entering CHHS from one of our GCISD middle school choir programs will be well equipped to begin their journey in high school choral music, however, the level of competition and opportunity greatly increases as students progress in the program. If you are focused on excelling in the CHHS Choir Program some of the following activities are available over the summer to help you.
Enroll in Voice Lessons
Through the GCSID Music Enrichment program we employ professional voice instructors on the CHHS campus that teach our students in weekly private lessons. During the summer months lessons are available to all GCISD students from these teachers housed on the Grapevine High School Campus. While you can certainly enroll in the Fall, it can be very helpful for our students transitioning to high school to get started during the summer months. Please fill out THIS FORM and visit our VOICE LESSON PAGE to receive more information concerning summer enrollment. Financial Aid is available.
2. Consider Attending a Summer All-State Camp
While the All-State / All-Region Audition process is an incredible learning opportunity for our students, our incoming 9th graders often miss out on the opportunity as they feel behind when trying to start the process in August. The audition process is rigorous and while students often do not advance to state until their junior or senior year the skills they learn from engaging in the audition as a young student benefits them greatly. Please check out this informative article concerning All-State for incoming 9th graders and then visit our All-State Information Page if you are interested in attending a summer camp.
3. Attend our GCISD Summer All-State Workshop
CHHS and GHS choirs combine and offer a FREE Summer workshop in early August to give our students a jump start on the first round of All-State audition music. Please watch your email for final details in the coming weeks as we work to finalize a facility and time that will work with all of the campus construction this summer. While this is not a replacement for a collegiate All-State Camp, this can help our students catch up and be prepared for the audition process in the Fall.
We are proud to maintain the CHHS Panther Choir as one of the most inexpensive activities on campus through careful financial management and extensive fundraising efforts. We want you to be prepared for the required fees for the choral program. GCISD charges a $50 "pay to play" fee that is payable to the district at registration. There are programs to waive this fee for those with extenuating financial circumstances. The CHHS Panther Choir assesses a Choir Fee at the start of the year ($55 for the 2017-2018 School Year, we will finalize next years fees shortly) that helps with supplies, uniforms, and other miscellaneous expenses associated with participation in our program. To examine other optional expenses that occur during the school year please see the finance section of our CHOIR HANDBOOK.
2. Panther Choir Booster Association
Welcome Future Panther Choir Parents! We are over the moon that you and your child will be a valued part of this family called CHHS Panther Choir! As the parent of a choir member, you can expect many good things from choir leadership. One of those is excellent communication. Our director, Mr. Rinn keeps the choir calendar online, inviting parents and students to subscribe. A weekly newsletter updates victories and reminders, which helps us all to stay focused on the task at hand. In choir, any after-school rehearsals begin and end promptly, respecting everyone's time. Feel free to peruse the Panther Choir website HERE. And consider volunteering your time and talents with the Panther Choir Booster Club. It takes a small army of dedicated volunteers to support this amazing work behind the scenes. You will be thrilled with the progress your child makes with the Panther Choir. Not only will your child mature into a quality vocalist, but your precious treasure, if he or she chooses to receive what is offered, will mature into a quality human being.

2. Choir Events
We maintain a detailed schedule via Google Calendar that we invite students and parents to subscribe to. You can view the calendar and see how to subscribe to it on our CALENDAR PAGE. Please note that we are currently adding events to the calendar as we work to finalize next year's schedule. The calendar should be complete by early June.
Please mark your calendar now for two events that occur early. On Saturday, August 25 we will have our welcome back choir party at Rockledge Park on Lake Grapevine. This is a great opportunity for students to be welcomed into our choir family! Our Fall new parent meeting and uniform fitting "Get Fit Day" will occur on Saturday, September 8. We will have a parent meeting at 9am followed by fee/form collection and uniform fitting.
Again, we are so excited that you will be part of the CHHS Panther Choirs. Should you have any questions that we can answer, please feel free to contact Mr. Rinn at your convenience.
