Panther Choir Newsletter 05/13/2019

The finish line is in sight! It continues to be busy in the Panther Choirs. Thank you to all of the students and parents who have contributed to the successful events over the past few weeks including the Jazz Shows and our Choir Banquet on Friday night. We are still working hard preparing for our Spring Concert on Thursday, May 23 where we will present Randall Thompson's Frostiana with full orchestra with the support of the GCISD Education Foundation. We are also working to finish choir placement auditions for next year and officer interviews. We hope to be able to post choir rosters next week. Should you have any questions about the audition process please contact us so that we can assist and make sure every student is placed in the appropriate ensemble for them.

- Spring Tour 2020 - New York City-

We are excited to announce official approval of our 2020 spring trip to New York City. The Panther Choirs will travel April 23-26, 2020 engaging in Broadway Performances, a trip to the 9/11 Museum, a workshop with Broadway actors, and possible performances at the United Nations, St. Patrick's Cathedral, and the 9/11 Memorial. This trip is open to all students enrolled in choir in the 2019-2020 school year. Space is limited and awarded by order of receipt of registration. Please see our tour page for detailed information regarding this exciting travel opportunity. We will begin accepting registration forms for the New York Trip this Wednesday, May 15. You may turn these into the Choir Office.

- Spring Concert & Senior Recognition -

May 23 | 7:30 pm | CHHS Auditorium

Please make plans to join us for our Spring Concert on Thursday, May 23 at 7:30 pm in the CHHS auditorium. Thanks to a generous grant from the GCISD Education Foundation we will be accompanied by professional orchestra in the performance of Randall Thompson's Frostiana, a multi-movement choral work on the poetry of Robert Frost.

Orchestra Rehearsal | Tuesday, May 21 | 4:15-6:15pm

There is a mandatory technical & orchestral rehearsal with all choir students on Tuesday, May 21st. Please understand the importance of this brief rehearsal and make plans to attend. This is our only opportunity to work with our instrumentalists and as a complete ensemble. If you have a conflict that requires absence from this event (as laid out in our choir handbook) please follow the appropriate communication procedures as soon as possible to help us plan for your potential absence.

- Choir Uniform Turn In -

May 23 | Following the Spring Concert

All students will turn in uniforms following the completion of the Spring Concert. Students should bring a change of clothes to the concert to accommodate for this. Students who do not turn in uniforms at the end of the concert will be put on the school fine list. We have wonderful volunteers who have scheduled time out of their evening and following day in order to help us complete our uniform needs. Please help us honor our volunteers and their time by being prepared to turn in uniforms this evening.

- Jazz Auditions for 2019-2020 Panther Choirs -

We are starting auditions this week for jazz placement in choir next year. Please make sure you have signed up for an audition time and are prepared with a solo and to sight-read in your audition. If you have not yet signed up for an audition and there are no further times available, please email Mr. Rinn and Mr. Gilliland to find another available option. See the audition page for additional details of the audition.

- TMEA All-State Packets -

Students who would like us to order TMEA All-State packets to have prior to end of the school year can do so at the link below. Each packet is $24 and separated by voice part designation: treble or tenor/bass. In order for you to be able to receive this packet prior to the end of the school year, this form must be filled out by this coming Monday, May 20th. Please pay by cash or check made out to CHHS Panther Choir Boosters.

- Summer Music Camps -

For many of our students the preparations for the new school year begins with one of the many camps offered by Universities in the summer. This is a unique opportunity for students to build musicianship, experience a collegiate music school and get a head start on region and all-state audition music. Please see the list below to explore opportunities and get registered. Please email Mr. Rinn if you'd like to attend the University of Texas at Austin camp as I have a unique discount code for our students.

CHHS Choir parents, our booster team needs you! We have a wonderful team of parents who support us and allow us to create many of the wonderful opportunities we offer to our students each year.
